Food for Thought 20192019-08-14T11:12:44-05:00

Started in 2002, Food for Thought has always been a very popular event, bringing together a wide range of community-minded individuals and leaders for an evening of fellowship and fun.  Over the years, our guests have enjoyed thought-provoking presentations by engaging speakers such as Stephen Lewis, Margaret Wente, Alan Doyle and Mary Walsh.

Proceeds are directed to our Impact Fund, which supports operational excellence, enabling us to sustain granting programs that benefit charities and community initiatives.  Every dollar invested in that evening allows your Foundation to reach out to a broader philanthropic community, and partner with more non-profit organizations, to build a stronger Cambridge and North Dumfries.

Generation Without Borders: Encouraging Youth Activism

CNDCF is honoured to announce this year’s Food for Thought speaker, Lieutenant-General, the Honourable Roméo Dallaire (Ret’d).  His humanitarian commitment and integrity have made lasting impressions around the world.  A celebrated advocate for human rights, General Dallaire is also a respected author, government and UN advisor, and former Canadian Senator.

General Dallaire is an outspoken advocate for human rights, bringing attention to situations too-often ignored, whether the atrocities of genocide, the struggle of veterans with mental health injuries, or the recruitment and use of child soldiers.  He inspires with practical solutions and limitless hope.

In this rousing presentation, Dallaire urges young people today — with their grasp of technology and encompassing world view — to get involved, to know their global peers, and to get their boots dirty!  “It’s your turn,” he tells young audiences. “Your role is well beyond the borders of this country. I don’t think there’s a more significant time to service humanity than now. Allons-y!” This presentation will inspire youth to be engaged with the world around them by showing how their interconnectedness transcends political borders, allowing for an exchange of ideas & mobilized actions towards a more peaceful world.
